Known as the Garden Isle and one of the oldest Hawaiian islands, Kauai is the perfect place for families. Kauai doesn't have some of the overstimulating cities that keep families away from Oahu or Hawaii. Instead, there are plenty of gorgeous resorts, yummy restaurants, and ways to get your family outside to learn about this wonderful island. In the following, I’ve collected some of the best activities for families to take part in during their visit to Kauai.
Jump Off The Pier At Hanalei Bay

Surrounded by stunning green mountains and adorable shops, Hanalei Bay is a paradise. If you visit in the Summer, the waves will be tame enough for you and your little ones to jump off the iconic pier and have a swim in the warm water. Conveniently located on the north shore, after your swim, you can pop into a nearby town and look at some of the shops and restaurants.
Kayak or Paddle Board To Secret Falls

The journey to Secret Falls is a great opportunity for your family to explore the outdoors and be rewarded with some stunning views. The waterfall is only accessible by paddling down Wailua River, then hiking for 30 to 45 minutes through the jungle. It might be challenging to get to, but the 100-foot waterfall at the end makes it worth it!
Try the ice cream at Lappert’s

Lappert’s is one of my family's favorite traditions when visiting Kauai. You're immediately invited in by the sweet smells of sugar and pineapple. A soft strumming ukulele comes out of the speakers. It offers a peaceful break from your adventures around the island. What makes this ice cream shop really special is that it is offers handmade and inspired by the flavors of Hawaii. Some of my favorites are lilikoi dream pie, coconut pineapple, and banana fudge. With three locations scattered conveniently across the island, Lappert’s is the perfect place to stop in for a sweet treat.
Look For Wild Sea Life On Poipu Beach

Located on the South shore, Poipu Beach is perfect for little kids. The beach offers an updated play area, yummy food, and even pristine snorkeling. But what makes Poipu special is the wildlife that frequents the area. Oftentimes, you’ll spot sleeping sea turtles or even Hawaiian monk seals resting on the shore. In the end, Poipu offers plenty of memorable experiences for you and your little ones, plus an opportunity to learn more about Hawaii’s unique wildlife.
Go On An ATV Adventure With Kipu Ranch

Kipu Ranch is a stunning 3,000-acre property that offers thrilling adventures on ATVs and breathtaking views. Once you’ve put on your helmet and learn how to operate the vehicle, you're ready to go. You will get to go on a thrilling ride throughout the jungle and see some of your favorite movie locations along the way. Movies like Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, and Pirates of the Caribbean have all had scenes shot at Kipu ranch. By taking an ATV tour, you’ll get to go on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with gorgeous views of the island and see where some of your favorite movies were filmed.
